The Big Bee Buzz brings information and special speakers for beekeepers of all levels of experience, from seasoned beekeepers to those just curious about beekeeping. Link to registration below. Per person admission prices include Lunch on Saturday and snacks throughout the conference.

Speaker Bio Information: 

1. Natalee Summers

Is a 15 year old beekeeper from NW Missouri.  Her journey began in 2017, when her family started their apiary and business, known as Hitch Hive Honey.  Natalee quickly found an interest in beekeeping and continued learning about bees. She started a YouTube channel with the help of her parents, in 2020, called “Beekeeping with Natalee.” Natalee really enjoys grafting queens, which has led to nearly 1000 grafts in the last few years. Natalee will be hosting our kids class on Friday evening as well as speaking on Saturday!

 

 2. Jeff Horchoff 

Is the lone beekeeper/ bee wrangler for a group of Benedictine monks at St. Joseph Abbey tending their flock of 150 or so bee hives while keeping supplied the stock of honey to their Gift Shop from the efforts of their bees. He considers it a blessing to have been placed here by God to do His work.

 

 

3. Alvaro De la Mora

 

Is a PhD candidate at the Honey Bee Research Centre (HBRC), University of Guelph, Canada, under the supervision of Dr. Ernesto Guzman. Alvaro has nearly 15 years of international experience in honey bee management and research. He has experience in apiculture, honey bee health, honey bee diseases, production of hive products, etc. He enjoys working with producers and students. Therefore, he has collaborated with different research groups at diverse research institutions. His goals for his presentations include sharing the experience and updates that the HBRC has on different strategies to reduce the impact of Varroa destructor and Nosema ceranae on honey bee colonies, and also managing hives with single brood chambers.
